Three Twins Ice Cream
Neal Gottlieb founded Three Twins Ice Cream in 2005. That first year, he made all the ice cream himself, scooped it all himself, and even handled all the cleaning, administrative, and customer-service issues. Moreover, he did it all inside a tiny 580-square-foot shop. Such is the life of an entrepreneur.
But Three Twins' current success makes those early days worth it—all the long hours and nightmares about floods of melting ice cream. Today, Neal's premium, certified-organic ice cream can be found in scoop shops scattered around the Bay Area as well as many more grocery stores, farmer's markets, and cafés. Despite the dramatic ramp-up in production, the ice cream's core ingredients—and quality—have remained the same. A simple base of milk, cream, eggs, and cane sugar combine with organic ingredients to form approximately 100 rotating flavors, including 21 sold by the pint.
