Participants can learn basic skills and procedures related to aquatic emergencies, such as care for breathing, CPR, and first aid
- What’s included:
- A blended online and in-person class that covers basic techniques of preventing, recognizing, and responding to aquatic emergencies
- Instructional videos and course materials provided through an online learning portal in combination with a two-day in-water skill session.
- Skill session takes place on site and provides hands-on instructor-led training of all the techniques reviewed in the online coursework
- Both days of the in-water skill session must be attended in full in order to receive credit for the course
- Requirements: must be 15 or older, must be able to swim 300 yards continuously, must tread water for two minutes without use of arms, must complete a 10 lb brick retrieval from a depth of 8–10 feet in 1 minute and 40 seconds
- Red Cross certificate validity period: two years
