In 1995, Tijuana Flats founder Brian Wheeler opened his first restaurant in Winter Park, Florida, and started plying patrons with zesty, made-to-order Tex-Mex burritos, quesadillas, and nachos flavored with his own line of impressively spicy hot sauce. The restaurant’s laid-back, fun-loving atmosphere caught on with customers, and it eventually expanded to more than 100 locations across six different states.
At each location, colorful comic-book style wall art surrounds guests, forming a festive backdrop. Diners can feast on mahi-mahi fish tacos, all-white meat, hormone-free chicken chimichangas, and vegetarian burritos made with beans that don't come out of a can. Everything comes wrapped in their choice of flour or whole-wheat tortillas. Central to the experience is the infamous hot bar which contains the company’s own Smack My Ass & Call Me Sally line of sauces, as well as varieties from private-label brands from around the country. Beer, wine, and sangria are on hand to put out any mouth fires.
Tijuana Flats prides itself on its commitment to freshness, with cooks whipping up each meal to order without the aid of trans-fat cooking oil, lard, or replicators.
