Unlike speedy in-and-out coffee shops, cafés indulge fantasies of sneaking off through misty European streets paved with pain au chocolat and lined with biscotti parking meters. Indulge in savory streetside fare with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of breakfast, lunch, tapas, fondue, wine, and more at Toast Coffeehouse, a Port Jefferson establishment hosting eclectic breakfasts, lunches, and the local outlet of artistic abundance, FRESH Art Gallery. Come by Thursday–Saturday from 6 p.m. to close for a free glass of sangria with your Groupon.

Drop in for a bite and a quaff and scan the appropriate breakfast or lunch menu. Start the day with an innovative omelette such as the Down Port (lump crab, asparagus, crisp bacon, roasted red pepper, and smoked gouda served with home fries and choice of toast; $11.95), or maintain a flavor-fueled daytrip with a wrap such as the house-made chicken salad with apple, mixed greens, and tomato ($9.95) or the half-pound gorgonzola and roasted red pepper burger, with lettuce, tomato, and red onion served with fries and a salad ($10.95). Bring a special someone for a tandem plunge into the molten goodness of cheese or chocolate fondue ($25 for a couple), or bring a crowd of friendly strangers to bond over tasty tapas ($9–$12).

Toast's ambiance is enhanced by lubrications of the social and aesthetic variety, playing host to featured local artists in the gallery and wines by the glass at the wine bar. Tipple the deep liquid rubies from a chalice of Angeline pinot noir ($9 glass; $34 bottle) while surveying the creative works lining the walls.

Valid for dine-in or carry-out.

The New York Times featured Toast Coffeehouse, and Zagat gives the food a 23. Yelpers give it an average of four stars:

  • Toast has adventurous breakfast and lunch menus — you can order breakfast until 3 p.m. — that include flavors and ingredients from all over…sometimes feels more like a lounge than a luncheonette. – Susan B. Novick, New York Times
  • “Fantastic gourmet breakfasts” (such as “dreamy” sweet potato pancakes) and “creative” Eclectic lunches are the daytime draw at this “winning”, “eccentric” Port Jefferson eatery, which also stays open for tapas, fondue and wine on Friday–Saturday nights… – Zagat

Customer Reviews

Very nice, cozy place to have an early breakfast or a filling lunch at. The espresso milkshake is to die for. Wraps and panini are good too, and you have a choice of few sides to go with it. The service is on the slow side, but we were OK with it.
