About Lao You Ju
Chef Tony Hu has brought several restaurants—including the renowned Lao Sze Chuan—to Chicago's Chinatown. But although Lao You Ju is located in the same complex as Hu's other hotspots, the restaurant is still blazing its own trail, and it's one that's paved with Pan-Asian tapas.
Family-style dinners here cross a staggering amount of geography. The small plates hail not just from Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Chongqing, but also from Thailand and Korea. Potstickers share the table with crispy frog legs and noodle soups, and chef's specials include smoked tea duck and Szechuan-style pan-fried salmon.
The atmosphere is just as much of a draw as the aromas. With its curvy red banquettes and a well-stocked cocktail bar, Lao You Ju has the feel of a swanky, modern lounge. Visitors can also schedule their own show with dinner, as the restaurant gladly hosts karaoke parties.
