What You'll Get
To subvert grumpy monarchs, angry medieval youths scrawled condiment graffiti such as "Fran Tanner has plague" and "the king is a jerk" inside their sandwiches. Dig beneath lettuce to bring history to light with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of sandwiches and more at Too Fat Sandwiches. Customers can eat in or take out from any of the three Too Fat locations. This Groupon is also valid toward the $1.50 delivery charge.
Too Fat Sandwiches has been perfecting its recipes for more than 25 years, offering thick sandwiches in half, whole, and jumbo sizes on homemade, freshly baked bread. Cold sandwiches, such as the Too Fat Special ($6–$10), are stuffed with leaf lettuce, tomatoes, onions, wax peppers, and parmesan cheese and are sprinkled with an oil-and-vinegar dressing for a tastesperience as sensational as a traveling carnival that transforms adults into weeping babies. Too Fat can also stuff children with the kid's meal, which includes a sandwich, chips, cookie, drink, activity pack, and kid's cup ($5), a critical layer of defense for little leaguers. Or, try any of Too Fat's hot sandwiches, including the Killer Pastrami ($6–$10). On Thursdays, Too Fat's Tri Tip sandwich ($5.75–$10) is barbecued onsite and topped with salsa or barbecue sauce.
Rick Smoot and his family opened each of the three Too Fat locations on April Fools’ Day, including the original shop on F Street. That may explain the somewhat zany interior décor—amid walls of delicately painted Italianate murals, umbrellas covered in pink piglets hang upside down from the ceiling. Gaze into the eyes of these hovering porcine pals while indulging in a fresh Too Fat sandwich, and masticate over life’s mysteries, like why the Great Pyramids often appear, unbidden, in your living room.
Although there are few reviews for Too Fat online, five people on Bakersfield.com give it a four-star average:
- This place rocks. This is one of the few places that when you order a turkey sandwich you get REAL turkey. It is not that processed junk !!! – gonefishn
- I love this sandwich shop! The Dutch Crust bread is the best and their cookies are to die for. Great alternative to the chain sandwich shops.....it is much better! – KATTBC
