What You'll Get
History’s greatest thinkers—Albert Einstein, Francis Bacon, and Geddy Lee—did some of their finest mind work while under the intoxicating spell of a good brain-beer. Celebrate cerebral gain and suds with today’s Groupon: for $18, you get admission to the “Beer Makes History Better” tour from Toronto Urban Adventures, a $37 value. Though the tour cost includes a beer tasting at the tour’s conclusion, additional beer and snacks (available for purchase along the way) and gratuity are not included in this Groupon.
The Beer Makes History Better tour taps into the early history of the city and its libationful locales with a guided walk through the streets of Old Toronto. During the three-hour jaunt, you and a small group of fellow livers-on-legs will stop at three pubs for a chance to taste brews at each stop as you simultaneously imbibe Toronto’s rich history of fire, war, and Joe Carter home runs. The tour also stops at the St. Lawrence Market for a sampling of Canadian delicacies, with the lager-and-laugh fest winding down in the Distillery District. By the end of the Beer Makes History Better tour, guests will have gained a new understanding of Toronto’s colourful past and a new appreciation for the craftsmanship behind regional beers. They may also contemplate what else beer could make better, such as marriages, dogs, or children’s ballet recitals.
Tours run Tuesday through Saturday, and guests must be at least 19 years old. Strap on a comfortable pair of drinking shoes, tell the boss that you’re in fact going on a Beer Makes Business Better tour, and curl up inside a frothy pint of heritage and history with Toronto Urban Adventures’ beer-bathed tour.
The Beer Makes History Better tour garnered a positive feature from Torontoist:
- At its best, Beer Makes History Better is like an evening out drinking with your buddies, with the added bonus that you might actually learn something. The pub stops also give the tour an unpredictable edge. Sure, if you linger too long at a bar or two, the tour’s going to run long, but if you’re not on a schedule, that’s part of the fun. There's also something about alcohol that just makes history sexier. – Stephen Michalowicz, Torontoist

About Tour Guys
Under the leadership of tour veterans Steve Woodall and Jason Kucherawy, Tour Guys' team of knowledgeable guides combines talents from other professions to lead entertaining tours of Vancouver and Toronto. Actors, comedians, history buffs, and teachers exchange their workplace attire for comfortable clothes and a stylish thinking cap to chauffer clients around historic neighbourhoods, dispensing facts while showing them a side of the city not often seen. Guides direct both free daily tours and affordable paid sessions, including ghost tours, graffiti tours, beer tours, and walking tours that follow the Nordic explorers' first pub crawl. Steve and Jason also host tour classes that teach future guides the skills needed to host their own fun and educational tours.
