What You'll Get
Art can express a variety of human feelings, from joy at the birth of a child to confusion at the birth of a man-child. Eloquently articulate your emotions with today's Groupon: for $60, you get a four-week painting or drawing class at Transistor in Andersonville (a $120 value). All classes are held once a week from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday or Thursday evenings; materials are not included, and preregistration is required.
Perched atop a media fault line connecting sound and vision, Transistor serves as an eclectic emporium of music, art, books, and electronics. Its art classes invite novice and seasoned creative types to paint sans numbers and draw sans tracing paper. Painting with oils and acrylics teaches brush techniques and reviews the painting styles of prominent professional baseball players. The drawing fundamentals course imparts basic still-life, figure-drawing, and perspective skills as students use tools such as charcoal, graphite, link sausage, and conté crayon. All classes probe creative critical thought through a review of a master artists' work. Before or after class, students can mingle amid fellow creatives, musicians, and idea seekers who frequent the space for a variety of live, weekly events, including underground music on Friday and Sunday nights.
