Today’s Groupon will send thrills down your circusy spine with $38 for a two-hour trapeze class at Trapeze Experience, the touring circus act that made a permanent home in Austin. Grab this deal and climb up to the platform to see the world from a whole new perspective: the perspective of a person who’s about to jump off a giant platform.
The indoor classes at Trapeze Experience are beginner-friendly, starting with warm-ups and a basic lesson on terra firma, before moving up to the platform for more than an hour of airborne exhilaration. The knowledgeable staff will help you master the basics of swinging and take you as far into the air as your comfort allows. You’ll even get a chance to leap into the arms of an experienced trapeze artist on the first lesson, should you choose. Sweep and soar high above the net, feeling the rush of adrenaline through your veins and the wind in your grin as you use muscles you never knew you had to accomplish something you always thought impossible to make a memory you can’t not remember and you’ll never always forget.
As you may remember from your playground days (Wednesdays, for most), swinging by your knees is fantastic exercise best done with friends. This deal is perfect for small groups—you and your closest chums might get hooked and start up your own circus act.
Classes take place Wednesdays through Sundays at SoccerZone, on the corner of Manchaca and Slaughter. Class size is limited to 10 people; choose from the following times:
- Wednesday: 1–3 p.m., 3:30–5:30 p.m., and 6:30–8:30 p.m.
- Thursday: 1–3 p.m., 3:30–5:30 p.m., and 6:30–8:30 p.m.
- Friday: 1–3 p.m., 3:30–5:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 1:30–3:30 p.m., 4–6 p.m.
- Sunday: 1:15–3:15 p.m.
Note: Flyers must be less than 250 lbs.
Classes with Trapeze Experience have been featured on Examiner.com as an off-the-beaten-path gem. Three Yelpers have come down off the rigging long enough to give Trapeze Experience five stars: > * I’m terrified of heights so this was my way of facing the fear. The staff was terrific and very helpful. I was still “flying” when I got home. The thrill was fantabulous! – Angela M. > * This is a great event to do with a bunch of friends - remember when your Mom used to say “if your friends all jumped off a cliff, would you jump?” The answer seems to be yes if you’re on the trapeze :) – Jim C.
The World’s Greatest Time-Traveling Trapeze Artist
The world’s greatest trapeze artist, Declan X. Keyswell, will be born on September 17, 2010. His skill is so amazing, that in the year 2525, Declan becomes the first person to ever trapeze himself back in time.
At first, Declan is unable to control his time-leaping, often randomly trapezing into medieval castles or the Triassic Period. As he becomes more confident in his abilities, Declan learns to control his time-jumps and has now time-trapezed his way into our hearts. The 1970s sitcom How About That? was based on his past future adventures.
