Though nicknamed “the city in the forest,” Atlanta has lost 65% of its tree coverage since 1975, falling far below the EPA recommended minimum. The remaining canopy cannot compete with the largely paved urban landscape, which creates a heat island during the summer, trapping heat within the atmosphere, affecting weather patterns, and increasing air pollution. With G-Team support, Trees Atlanta will plant 6- to 10-foot-tall native shade trees—including maples, cedars, magnolias, and dogwoods—in communities with the least amount of verdure, providing two years of watering, pruning, mulching, and general care to keep each arboreal investment healthy and vibrant. Having planted and distributed more than 75,000 shade trees since its inception, Trees Atlanta sustains a healthy environment, establishes stunning, shaded neighborhoods, and promotes positive dialogue among volunteers and city communities through tangible change.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help restore Atlanta’s tree coverage. If G-Team members raise $800, Trees Atlanta can plant and nurture five trees, replenishing the city’s natural shade and beauty. Each additional $160 raised will fund an additional tree. G-Team members can also join Trees Atlanta to plant the trees they helped purchase on Saturday, March 26th at 9 a.m. (see the volunteer page for more information).
