If you crossed the world of Dr. Seuss with Medieval court jesters and anime characters, you'd end up with the wildly colorful circus cabaret ensemble Fou Fou Ha. Their latest production, Whoa-Man!, riffs on iconic pop-culture phenomena such as 50 Shades of Grey and Lean-In in service of a wildly imaginative stage musical about four women looking for love in the modern age. Set to a score that ranges from show tunes to Missy Elliot, Whoa-Man! combines sexy dance numbers, live singing and an '80s Nordstrom's worth of shoulder pads to bring this fun, frisky take on female sexuality, body image and self-worth back to San Francisco's Shelton Theater.
The cast includes Jasper Patterson of the New Eccentrics, Bobby Barnaby of SF Boylesque, Allegra Misonznick-Davidson, Amelia Van Brunt, Courtney Cavagnero, Janelle La Riza, Lucas Reshi and Dyon Lain. Conceived, choreographed and directed by Maya Lane, with original acts and costume design by the cast. Produced by Tommy Arnold.
