At Tsuru, you may need to be prepared to look your dinner in the eye. The pièce de résistance of their Instagram-worthy menu is the red gurnard—the head of this bright, peculiar-looking fish rests atop a column of bamboo sticks, its large pectoral fins loosely furled as if in mid-swim. It holds court over a bowl artfully packed with julienne veggies, herbs, flowers, and sashimi cut from the fish itself. With other entrees, such as sushi plates, condiments aren't relegated to ramekins, but instead painted into butterflies and flowers that frame the rolls.
However, Tsuru isn't all flash and no substance. Its extensive menu showcases the chefs' pan-Asian talents, including everything from hibachi and stir-fry to general tso's and green curry. A full bar lit in neon hues serves cocktails as colorful and creative as Tsuru's dishes.
