After the snow and ice has settled on the pastoral, forested grounds of Olympia Resort and Conference Center, thousands of runners converge to hurl themselves at 3.5 miles of frozen terrain and obstacles during the Tundra Challenge. In each 30-minute wave, 200 racers must surmount more than 15 obstacles, including Helsinki Hill, a 205-foot climb up a slippery slope leading to the 50-foot Suicide Slide, and the Tundra Toast, in which participants must roast marshmallows to a perfect medium-rare while vaulting over flame pits. Other trials include weaving through icy tunnels, climbing up 12 feet of cargo net, and crawling under nets while dodging snowballs.
The top finishers, teams with the best attitude, and participants with the longest nose icicles receive trophies after the race, and all runners garner a free hat and beer coupon for their bravery. The after-party kicks off at noon, warming ice-veined adventurers with live music, DJs, warm cuisine, and drinks.

About Storm the Stadium
One of the longest consecutive-stair challenges in America, Storm the Stadium invites racers to tackle a 3,000- or 6,000-stair course that crisscrosses Chicago's beloved U.S. Cellular Field. Groups of 350 racers launch every 10 seconds beginning at 8 a.m., spurred on by pumping music and fueled by samples of food or drink from vendors. Climbers can also opt to purchase more food and alcoholic beverages from the stadium's concession stands. In addition to individual participants, elite racing teams also make the climb; the team with the best average time earns a first-place finish and a thumbs up from a guy who once saw Buzz Aldrin at a mall. Storm the Stadium’s organizers help interested participants raise money for charities of their choice through race pledges; racers may choose to climb for a charity and donate an amount of their choosing.
