I wouldn't recommend for children or adults that have never been on a horse before. The trainer is great with a strong personality, but wouldn't mesh well with sensitive kids or anyone trying ro rise for the first time rhat doesn't know anything about horaes. Scheduling was kind of a handful. You need to buy a riding helmet and proper boots so be prepared to make an investment. Just know that before purchasing the groupon. Trainer was nice overall. I don't like to leave bad reviews, so I am giving this a 3 star. My experience was unpleasant and I left terrified of horses and self conscious about myself from the experience. There was little to none explanation on how to ride a horse before I was put on the horse. When the horse was upset with me, I wasn't getting or understanding the direction on how to fix the situation. I continued on the horse while it was acting out towards me. The trainer was on a cell phone and talking to another parent. Then I felt as I was being mocked at for being nervous. This is a good fit for someone that has ridden before.
The instructor and owner, Linda, seems to know a great deal about horses. She's an excellent horsewoman, I'd say, but not as good a teacher--in terms of, for example, taking things step by step and building on skills already taught, etc. I'm comparing this to another teacher I've recently had experience with. However, we enjoyed our experience. Getting to ride a horse is nothing to complain about--especially when you get a good deal on a Groupon! One thing: we purchased the 4-lesson option, but the instructor cancelled the 4th lesson, then didn't answer any of my texts about rescheduling--and this was for 3 people, so that took down the value of the Groupon a considerable amount.
The instructor is very nice and honest, she won't mess around with teaching. As a first-time adult rider, I was hoping to learn basics and some basic horse-care, which she includes right off the bat with you learning to brush and help put the tack on the horse. She was very patient and kept me working for the full lesson. I'd recommend for sure.
One tip: when you get to the address, drive up the single-car lane to park near the main house.
