What You'll Get
Wine connoisseurs assert that novice tasters should never pair red wine with fish, white wine with red meat, or excessive wine with jury duty. Lap up today's Groupon in moderate proportions: for $20, you get a Wine Tasting 101 class for two with two complimentary wineglasses at Two Saints Winery in Saint Charles (a $40 value). Classes take place between April 1 and May 31 and are held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
Wine Tasting 101 classes at Two Saints Winery spotlight Iowan wines as they instruct in the arts of tasting, purchasing, pairing, and storing. Budding oenophiles will study sipware, learning how specific stems boost a bottle's bouquet. Vineyard virtuosos teach groups how to properly reunite former grapes with well-chosen food pairings, purchase whites and reds, and squirrel away bottles for the appropriate season. At tasting time, examine the color, complexion, and perfume of a selection of wines from Two Saints' arsenal of more than 15 vintages. Shatter the fourth wall of wine drinking with views of 5,700 vines and the opportunity to fill glasses directly from Two Saints' tanks.
The winery ferments only local fruits and christens each varietal according to the grape's given name. Newly minted connoisseurs go home with a souvenir glass and a future full of opportunities to flex their wine expertise. Two Saints Winery boasts 10 acres of land divided into four separate vineyards, growing reds such as marechel foch, frontenac, leon millot, noiret, chambourcin, and chancellor. White wine varieties include seyval blanc, chardonell, and edelweiss.

About Two Saints Winery
Two Saints Winery holds fast to the belief that wine should be representative of its region. That's why to create its award-winning Iowa wines, Two Saints uses only grapes from its own property or grapes grown at local vineyards. Embedded within the rippling countryside of rural Warren County, the facility produces up to 30,000 bottles per year. And instead of using juices retrieved from faraway sources, such as California or the mini refrigerators inside seashells, Two Saints spurns flavor enhancements and lets the natural flavors of Iowa's land emerge by aging bottles for at least a year. Customers, meanwhile, can enjoy those products right at the winery, especially during tastings and live events held frequently on the property. During the wine tasting each customer will choose four wines from an extensive wine list. Then they will compare the varying levels of body, tannin structure, sweetness or dryness, and fruity or earthiness in the wines.
