At age 16, Tylers Coffee founder Tyler Ornstein ventured into the booming coffee industry armed with packets of Italian–roasted beans, a backpack, and a bicycle. Braving the brutal Arizona sun, he traveled from door to door, quickly selling out his entire inventory of java while overcoming customers’ initial skepticism with his impressive pool of knowledge and realistic fake mustaches.
As his understanding of the industry has deepened, Tyler has shifted his focus to acid-free coffees, drawing customers who had given up their morning brew on the advice of their doctors, dietitians, and digestive tracts. After importing fine coffee from South America, his Arizona-based roasters use the computerized Z-roasting technique to roast the beans, eliminating acid while elevating caffeine levels. The resulting brews skyrocket energy levels while minimizing some of regular coffee's unpleasant aftereffects, such as damage to tooth enamel, upset stomach, heartburn, and unintentional telekinesis. To decaffeinate beans, the roasters practice a chemical-free Swiss water process, which also yields acid-free, flavorful beans.
Tyler’s obsession with optimal flavor is evidenced by his Coffee Talk blog, where weekly recipes, coffee analysis, and interesting facts mingle like croissants in a café. This dedication to highbrow flavor and high-amplitude caffeine dosage eventually reached a broad audience in 2006, when Tylers Coffee hit the shelves of fine grocery stores, and in 2011, he was invited to contribute to the goodie bags of celebrities at the MTV Movie Awards.
