UBC Botanical Garden

As Canada’s oldest university botanic garden, UBC Botanical Garden has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years. Established in 1916 under the directorship of John Davidson, the botanic garden’s mission was to research the native flora within British Columbia. Since then, the UBC Botanical Garden has expanded its focus to encompass education, conservation, and research of temperate plants across the globe.

The Greenheart TreeWalk is a 1,010-foot-long aerial trail system suspended 50 feet in the air. The walkway weaves through remote areas of the treetops above the native coastal temperate rainforest at the end of the David C. Lam Asian Garden, which flourishes with flora such as western red cedars, douglas firs, and western hemlocks and fauna such as bald eagles, coyotes, and woodpeckers. Visitors are invited to explore the Greenheart TreeWalk at their own pace as self-guided guests.

TreeWalk guests should wear comfortable footwear and plan on walking the entire time. Open-toed shoes, such as sandals and flip-flops, are not allowed on the walkway. Guests should also keep both hands free to hold on to the canopy guide ropes. Small children must be able to walk on their own or be carried in an approved child backpack or carrier; carrying children in one’s arms or in any other fashion is not permitted. Strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs are also not permitted on the walkway.
