Property at a Glance: Hotel Hugo

Hotel Hugo—a new boutique property opened in 2014—fits right in with SoHo’s hip aesthetic. The stylish hotel takes cues from European design, blending rustic wood and metal accents with edgy contemporary art.

  • Press nods: Forbes called the hotel “New York City’s coolest new downtown address.” and was named one of Conde Nast Traveler’s “Where you should stay in 2015”.
  • Sample Italian cuisine at the onsite Il Principe restaurant; its chefs have perfected lobster rigatoni and dijon-mustard-crusted salmon.
  • Rooftop bar: Sip cocktails amid floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the New York City skyline.
  • Chic guest rooms are decorated with custom wood furniture and contemporary art. Flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations round out the amenities.

Manhattan’s Tribeca: Historic Homes and Waterfront Parks in Lower Manhattan

Tribeca, short for “Triangle Below Canal,” located just south of the hotel, encompasses about 40 blocks in Lower Manhattan (Canal Street is its northernmost border). Its cobblestone streets are lined with huge, cast-iron buildings that served as cotton factories and textile mills in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In recent years, Tribeca has emerged as one of the most fashionable places to live in the city, and these former industrial spaces have been converted into lavish homes for local residents including Beyoncé, Meryl Streep, and Gwyneth Paltrow. This transformation has given rise to a number of haute-cuisine restaurants and designer boutiques, but the neighborhood can still feel mellow and residential.

Tribeca is also home to a thriving arts scene. You’ll find contemporary art galleries and performance venues along Franklin Street, and the Tribeca Film Festival—one of the most renowned independent-film events in the world—takes place here every spring. The area is also known for its beautiful architecture. A Neo-Gothic landmark, the Woolworth Building on Broadway is adorned with gargoyles that caricature famous contemporaries, including the building’s architect, Cass Gilbert.

There are also a number of places nearby to get outside and play. Hudson River Park centers around a 5-mile waterfront promenade. You can enjoy more water views from the High Line, a scenic walkway built on a historic former railroad that’s suspended above the streets of Manhattan’s West Side.
