This Groupon gently stretches your muscles and joints, a pleasant sensation sought after by every bungee cord, Laffy Taffy, and Stretch Armstrong the world around. For $32, you get individual passes to four yoga drop-in classes at your choice of four Unity Woods DC-area locations in Bethesda, Woodley Park, Tenleytown, and Arlington, an $80 value.
The four individual passes are good for any drop-in class in level I, level I/II, gentle I or II, seniors, or the four-week introductory yoga course. You can hop around to different studios with your Groupon; classes take place several times a day, seven days a week at the clean, accommodating downward-dog dens. Level I and level I/II classes introduce students to the Iyengar approach, which emphasizes proper alignment and incorporates props to aid in postures that might be otherwise unachievable. Descriptions of the classes can be found here.
Unity Woods' founder and chief instructor, John Schumacher, studied in India with B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the world's foremost yoga teachers. His team of friendly, enthusiastic instructors is fully certified and knows how to help students sweat and stretch until they're calmer, more energized, and more revitalized than the 217 rechargeable AA batteries that power Greater America. If you're new to yoga or the Iyengar method, this is a great chance to learn the downward dog, upward dog, or omniscient narrator. Yoga stretches your muscles, relieving stiffness and pain; it also increases flexibility and strength (deep core muscles support each pose), which will improve your range of motion, balance, and posture, all vital to moving up in the corporate world, seeing over the steering wheel, and slicing your morning bagel.
This Groupon is not valid for currently enrolled students.
Washington City Paper's readers voted Unity Woods founder John Schumacher one of the top three yoga instructors in the Washington area in 2010.
