Surfing provides man a physically interactive mode of sea travel, unlike stowing away on a galleon or hitchhiking with an emotionally distant manatee. Ride the salty swells with today's Groupon: for $50, you get a two-hour introductory group surfing lesson from the University of Surfing at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica (a $100 value). All necessary equipment is included. Absolute beginners, out-of-practice novices, and transfer students are all equally welcome.
The University of Surfing is a licensed and insured institution where surfers of all proficiencies can better their boarding skills. Surfing 101 covers all the basics. Wet-and-wild class time at the university's beautiful beach campus starts with a brief overview of high-and-dry fundamentals practiced on the sand. The majority of the surfing class time is spent tossing and being tossed by the scud and surge, carving foam like sculptable whipped-cream topping. The experienced and certified coaches will guide green wave-riders onto the bucking backs of sea-steeds. Lessons are normally scheduled during beginner-friendly low tide, check on the schedule. Just be sure to email ahead to book an appointment and bring a towel, swimsuit, sunscreen, and a signed waiver to the lesson.
