The haiku is a traditional Japanese poetic style rooted in nature, the rhythms of the seasons, guitar-shaped flowers, and beer. Tap into the bounty of nature with today's deal: for $15, you get one general-admission ticket to Todd Snider live at the Hillbilly Haiku Americana Music Series and eight tickets for food and drink (a $28 total value). The music series will be held on the grounds of the Upland Brewing Company in Bloomington, Indiana, on Friday, September 3, at 6 p.m.

Contribute to a worthy cause while drinking the quality beers of Upland Brewing and listening to tunes from Todd Snider, the singer-songwriter Spin's David Menconi calls "a hardheaded, sharp-penned Americana songwriter whose character-actor croon fits somewhere between Lyle Lovett and Jerry Jeff Walker." With punch lines poised on the tongue of his opinionated lyrics, Snider joins supporting groups TV Mike and the Scarecrowes and local band The Elly Maze for an evening of relaxed outdoor concertry. Each of your food and drink tickets are worth $1 and will give your internal torso purse access to Upland brews, assorted beverages, and versatile fairground food that includes vegetarian options.

The Hillbilly Haiku Americana Music Series is an annual outdoor concert held by Upland Brewing Company for the main purpose of generating money for the Sycamore Land Trust, a not-for-profit group dedicated to preserving the endangered landscape of southern Indiana. So mark your September calendar in super permanent squid ink and prepare a small collection of blankets, folding chairs, and a foldable, warm companion for an evening of drinks, rock 'n’ roll, and environmental awareness.

Must provide ID at gate to prove identity and receive wristband indicating if able/unable to purchase alcohol. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This Groupon is only valid for the event on Friday, September 3, 2010.

Reviews

Todd Snider has been featured in loads of press over the years, including The New York Times and Rolling Stone. Spin singled him out among their Best of Bonnaroo 2009:

  • Mr. Snider’s country-blues songs are deceptively casual and charming. The more you contemplate them, the sturdier and deeper they seem. He presents himself as a live-and-let-live fatalist who has seen too much of the world to pass judgment on anyone. – Stephen Holden, New York Times

Yelpers give Upland Brewing Company four stars on average, RateBeer.com users give it a three-star average, and PubCrawler.com reviewers give the brewery an overall rating of "great:"

  • Love that they have outdoor seating and live music from time to time. The beers are usually delicious. And the food is pretty good. Great place to go with a group of friends. – Sidney B., Yelp

Customer Reviews

Need to work out the lines for beer... At times there were more people in line than sitting at the tables. But since it was a gorgeous day and the first year for the event, it definitely won't keep me from going back next year. I had a wonderful time, as did my friends.
