A burst of imagination arrives like an unexpected rainstorm, fertilizing your brain garden but ruining your road atlas. Harness your internal meteorology with today's Groupon: for $30, you get one class at the Urban Craft Center (up to a $70 value), located in Santa Monica. Classes can fill up fast, so make sure to book yours quickly.
The Urban Craft Center's spacious, welcoming, and well-equipped space makes it a gathering place for local crafting, as well as a place for aspiring artisans. Your Groupon is good for one Urban Craft class valued at $70 or less. See the June and July calendars for schedule and descriptions, and the class materials list for what you'll need to bring. Beginning needlers can kick-start their knuckles at the Intro to Sewing class ($65), a three-hour plunge into the inner workings of the sewing machine that teaches how to stitch in straight and zigzag patterns, as well as how to build a home knitting cocoon. Polyamorous crafters can play the field with courses such as edgy textile accessories, handmade paper, jewelry making, and interior jackhammering. Though not included in today's Groupon, required class materials that are not already included are available for purchase.
A circular, bright-orange couch and long wooden table in a roomy, industrial-chic space set the stage for the workshops, and each passionate teacher is ready to inspire and open to questions. You'll leave feeling artistically invigorated, prepared to whip up a throw pillow on a whim or fabricate a trilobite tote bag for a fashion-savvy prehistoric preschooler.
Not valid for classes that cost more than $70; by appointment only.

- Enter The Urban Craft Center, a new storefront in Santa Monica that wants to help foster the craft community on the westside by acting as a studio space for crafters to gather and work together, a host for some great classes (so you can learn something new) and a store selling exactly what you need to get that project finished. – Laure Joliet
- If you're a crafter you will appreciate the store, the work space, equipment, and library. I love that you can take classes, be inspired with new ideas, and have the space to create right there. The staff seamed very helpful also. – Shane L., Yelp
- What's not to love? Plenty of space to create. An amazing store chock full of art goodies. Some of the coolest classes around. Your jaw will drop when you walk in that door. Seriously amazing. ¬– Kelly K., Yelp
