I was at the Urban Dare Columbus. The Dares there were pretty lame. Hopefully they will be a lot better next year.

What You'll Get

For $45, today's deal gets you admission for a team of two to Urban Dare Pittsburgh (a $90 value). The race takes place on Saturday, April 30, launching at noon from 407 Cinema Drive.

Urban Dare is a fast-paced competition that challenges two-person teams to decipher clues, navigate the city, and perform playful stunts. A dozen trivia-based clues lead contestants to checkpoints all across Pittsburgh, where they must use a camera to document their presence and, in some cases, the completion of challenges. Participants can travel by foot and public transportation, but not by domesticated camel. Races generally last less than four hours, and the winning team receives free entry to the Super Dare, a cruise-based take on the Urban Dare concept that features a $5,000 grand prize. Proceeds from the race are used to help battle breast cancer.

Although there aren't many online reviews for Urban Dare, D Magazine's FrontBurner blog has covered the Dallas race. A video of Urban Dare competitors in action is also available online:

  • It was the first time to take the challenge for my wife and me. We finished a respectable 18th (out of 125 teams). The course began at the Ginger Man, and the clues required us to complete 12 tasks at locations that stretched from Pinkberry at West Village in the north to the park across from Dallas Morning News HQ to the south. We covered about eight miles, seven of those on foot. (We were allowed to use public transportation only—no taxis.) We finished in 3 hours flat. The winning couple (second from the right in this photo) finished in 1 hour, 45 minutes. – Jason Heid, FrontBurner
