What You'll Get
The perfect food and wine pairing is like the fateful meeting of destined lovers and is best celebrated with a tiny mock wedding presided over by a curmudgeonly pepper mill with a heart of gold. Combine gourmet nibbles and wine the way nature intended with today's deal: for $15, you get one of two wine-pairing classes (each a $30 value) at Urban Harvest in Arlington Heights. Choose from the following class options:
- Red Wine and Chocolate
- Wine and Cheese
In the Red Wine and Chocolate pairing class, students will subject their taste buds to a gauntlet of fine chocolates from Belgium, France, and the United States, testing each one's common interests and physical chemistry with a selection of wines from around the world to find the best matched pairs. Those interested in testing the boundaries of a long-standing relationship such as that between port and Stilton will enjoy the Wine and Cheese pairing class. Students will explore the coveted Brangelina of food couples, sampling classic pairs such as sauvignon blanc and chevre alongside new and stimulating combinations to find their favorites. Classes are held from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Urban Harvest will supplement its schedule with more sessions as needed. Upcoming sessions of the chocolate pairing class take place on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and Thursday, Oct. 21, and cheese classes are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 18, and Wednesday, Oct. 27.
An emporium of epicurean delights, Urban Harvest supplies oenophiles and gastronomes with a global wine selection and gourmet comestibles, including hard-to-find treats such as aged balsamic vinegar, caviar, and unconditional love. Owner Mary Ellen Hogan's discerning palate seeks a uniformly delicious stock of edible wares, and she brings that same knack for cultivated flavors to Urban Harvest's cooking and wine classes.
