What You'll Get
Before Pilates, those looking to tighten their cores were forced to exercise at six times normal gravity inside high-speed centrifuges, hoping the excessive speed would simply fling the fat off. Today's Groupon takes the principles of Pilates and does them one better: for $30, you get two Pilates-mat classes and two Xtend Barre classes at Urbanfront Pilates in Rittenhouse Square (an $80 value).
The Pilates-mat classes pump up slumping bodies with all levels of classical Pilates exercise, incorporating core-strengthening principles and equipment. Beginners will learn the basic language and movements in the intro to mat class, and intermediate and advanced Pilates buffs can improve their precision in the open-mat sessions. The Xtend Barre program combines the best aspects of ballet, Pilates, and isometric exercises to sculpt the body proportionally until it's as lean and aesthetically pleasing as Michelangelo's famous sculpture of his pet tabby, Davina. The energetic music and graceful choreography of each class make it feel less like a workout than a rehearsal for an upcoming Broadway smash based on your life. After two 55-minute sessions of Xtend Barre, as well as two mat classes, Pilates partisans will be on their way to improved posture, stronger back muscles, and increased energy, which will come in handy during sweat-dripping Skee-Ball tournaments.
Urbanfront Pilates accepts aerobic pupils of any age and skill level who long for an extensive and bodacious Pilates workout. Urbanfront owner and Pilates Method Alliance–certified teacher Karen Pecarsky has more than 20 years of experience in the fitness industry and works with students to ensure a pleasant, fat-vanquishing time at her boutique health club, which feels less like a faceless corporate entity and more like the laid-back neighborhood hangout where buddies stop by to chat about the news of the day while playing with medicine balls. And Urbanfront's flexible class schedule allows Pilates students burdened by a frantic work calendar and a son's monster-truck jump over the Grand Canyon to attend, with several options each week.
This Groupon is for new clients only, and must be fully redeemed within one month of the first class. Cancellations require at least 24 hours' notice. Call to schedule your first session.
