The earliest history museums had little actual history to draw on, and instead padded exhibits with wildly speculative displays about how dinosaurs would be elected to Congress by the year 2000. See how far we’ve come with today’s Groupon to The Valentine Richmond History Center. Choose from the following options:

  • For $8, you get two museum admissions (up to a $16 value). Children aged 6 and younger receive free admission.

The Valentine Richmond History Center has inspired visitors to explore Virginia’s yesteryears for more than a century, employing exhibitions, tours, research, special events, and educational programs. More than 1.7 million household items, industrial artifacts, and artworks adorn permanent and changing exhibitions to expound of past lifestyles. Admission also permits guest-entry into the Wickham House, a Natural Historic Landmark peppered with artifacts from its prominent former inhabitants, with a basement level that sheds light on the lives and private spaces of slaves. The renovated Edward V. Valentine Sculpture Studio details Valentine’s artistic maturation and evolution beyond macaroni portraits by displaying his original works and tools.

Memberships bestow holders with free entrance to and parking at the museum, as well as the John Marshall House, Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, and reciprocal admission at select National Museums. Members dole out complimentary guest passes to chums, attend special events, or access the museum archives by appointment to exhaustively research Richmond’s 400-year-old history and determine whether or not it was settled by aliens. A 10% museum-wide discount grants members cheaper eats from the café and purchases at The Valentine Richmond History Center’s shop of gifts and books.

A nice educational and artisitc museum set in a historic home. The admission included a tour of the homestead set in period. A good 2-3 hours spent.
