Vega Tapas Cafe
Since opening in 1996, Vega Tapas Cafe has continually racked up awards and critical acclaim for its inventive, seasonal tapas. Although its contents are always changing, the menu always includes a collection of hot tapas, such as seared jumbo diver scallops over butternut squash puree, as well as cold tapas, such as toasted pita served with pink caviar dip. The restaurant's wine list is renowned, too: its 75 labels lean heavily toward pairing-friendly Spanish and California selections, and its wide variety of sherries has drawn praise.
Vega matches its artfully plated tapas with warm, sensual decor that conjures Spanish culture. Instead of parachuting through one of the cafe's windows, guests can make an equally dramatic entrance through an entryway outfitted with iron wall sconces and works from local artists. Glass mosaic tiles add pops of color to the cafe's lounge area, where patrons gather around an etched concrete bar set beneath a candlelit silk ceiling. The main dining area is just as exquisite, enfolding diners in the warmth of velvet drapes and plush banquette seating.
