About Veins Specialist Of Illinois
No two patients are exactly the same. So when treating issues such as varicose or spider veins, the professionals at Vein Specialists of Illinois want to make sure patients get the treatment that's right for them. To do this, they use a full consultation and diagnostic ultrasound to evaluate vein function, then typically recommend one of four treatment paths:
Compression therapy: Prescription-strength compression stockings may help flush fluid and reduce swelling in the legs, and are often used to prevent problems before they start.
Endovenous laser ablation: Performed under local anesthetic, this procedure uses laser light to seal up problem veins so they may be absorbed back into the body naturally.
Sclerotherapy: For this treatment, which is most effective on spider veins, a special solution is injected into the vein, forcing it to close and eventually become reabsorbed into the body.
Lifestyle changes: For some patients with a family history of vein disease, small lifestyle changes, such as exercising and not sitting with legs crossed, can decrease risk for problem veins, and the staff can help patients assess what, if any, changes they should be making.
