$69 for a Metal-Manipulating Art Class ($300 Value)

Choose from four classes:

 • Pinching Giacometti steel-sculpting class
 • Melding with Welding beginner welding class
 • Welding and Weaving Garden Art class
 • Welding Dakota into Stone class

Each four- to five-hour metal-manipulating class, which includes all necessary materials, begins with a lecture on the history, innovations, and artistic techniques of the chosen medium. Afterward, six–eight students follow along as the instructor demonstrates how to bend steel into the form of an abstract humanoid in the style of Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti during Pinching Giacometti, weld a flint-and-bone sculpture to a stainless-steel stand using tungsten inert gas during Melding with Welding, weave and weld metal into a large-scale garden sculpture during Welding and Weaving Garden Art, or drill metal into stone to translate a Dakota—the eastern dialect of Great Siouan—word into sculpture during Welding Dakota into Stone. After an end-of-class critique, students return home with their creations in tow.

The encouraging instructors and professors at Vesper, an Atelier of Fine Arts, sharpen students’ understanding of design and bolster their respect for ecological balance. With a two-year curriculum, the school's diploma program in ecological sculpture guides participants through such disciplines as interior design, landscape design, construction management, and public-installation art. The school also hosts classes for the community, encouraging people to explore various forms of sculpture using metal, stone and wood.

The class could have been shorter. Lots of history which is good until it was too long to pay attention to.
