I visited the color factory with my 7 year old daughter. Overall, I would have to say that 3 of the rooms would greatly appeal to young children - the confetti room, the music room and the ball pit. We visited the Color Factory on a Tuesday morning when the NYC public schools were in session, so it wasn't too crowded and my daughter was able to have a really good experience. But I'd honestly have to say that if this museum was crowded I think it would be a very different experience so I would recommend visiting on weekdays when school is in session. I was particularly happy that the digital images taken in the exhibits are included with admission. The cameras include a timer and a screen that shows you what the the picture will look like and guide you to taking a good shot in the confetti room by letting you know when to throw your confetti. (the attached picture is from their camera) . Please note you can purchase a small sample of ice cream for 75 cents ahead of time, which is cheaper than purchasing it at the museum. You pick up your ice cream in the ball pit room, and it was quite good. Also, the bathrooms were clean on the date of my visit, at least the ones in the middle of the exhibit. My daughter really enjoyed her visit here.

I re-visited the Color Factory with high expectations and excitement to share the experience with my daughter. These expectations were well-earned based on a prior visit that felt truly magical. Unfortunately, today’s experience fell very, very far short of that. We arrived for our timed entry, but the line was extremely crowded and we waited more than 30 minutes past our scheduled time to enter. There had been a private party shortly before and they clearly had not given themselves time to clean because the entry way was littered with balloon animals and trash. I was initially disappointed that the welcome Taffy treat was neither provided nor offered, removing what had previously set the tone for small moments of surprise and delight. And, it just went downhill from there. In the very first room, the camera was out of order, and there were at least four additional cameras throughout the experience that were not working. During my first visit, the final ball pit room included a complimentary ice cream treat that felt like a special closing surprise. This time, ice cream was only available for purchase, which significantly diminished that moment. They were charging a very small fee, but it really took away from the vibe and made it feel like a cash grab. Additionally, the ball pit area was unsafe due to overcrowding with children, balls being hurled everywhere, kids were buried under them, some balls were broken and sharp, and there was trash inside the pit. My first visit made me so excited to share this with my daughter and happy to return and recommend to others. Sadly, this visit was beyond disappointing and not something we would encourage others to take part in.

Small and no real entertainment or excitement was very disappointing. But we have been to the one in Houston and I can say Houston location was a 10 out of 10. New York location was a 1 out of 10.
