Your tour begins at the Dreamhouse Country Inn, where you'll meet your local guide and be introduced to your luxury BMW Z4. Take 30 minutes of instruction to learn about the car and its operations, and then get fitted with headsets and two-way radios. Once ready, you're on to the open road!
Begin by driving past the historic homes of Bristol and The Village Green. With the aid of your headset, your guide will regale you with the history of the dairy industry, facts about sugaring history, and tidbits on the Vermont landscape. You will learn about the conflict between the French and the British who warred over this area. Hear about Jacque Cartier and Samuel de Champlain. You will also find out about the culture of the Iroquois and Abnaki Tribes. Continuing on your drive, you will get a view of Camel’s Hump while your guide talks about the Long Trail. Moving on to Mount Philo State Park, you'll drive to the top and and be treated to aerial view of Champlain Valley and Lake Champlain.
Enjoy the scenery as you continue roughly five miles to the Dankin Farms Store. Take some free time to browse and buy any Vermont products, at your own expense. Back in the car, drive past the Rokeby Museum, which houses the best documentation of the Underground Railroad in the Nation. Continue to the city of Vergennes, Vermont's first city self-proclaimed smallest city in America. You will pass village greens and the monument to Captain Thomas Macdonough, who built the USS Saratoga.
Head toward the lake with commentary about Vermont's sheep industry and the history of the Ethan Allen boys taking over Fort Ticonderoga. Learn about Benedict Arnold's leadership and how Arnold Bay got its name. See an Osprey's nest, Lake Champlain, Lake Champie, Snake Mountain, Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area, Apple Orchard and Morgan Horse Farm.
Next drive into Middlebury, crossing Otter Creek via the Pulp Mill Bridge and stop at Marble Works area for a photo of the Middlebury Falls. Enjoy some homemade refreshments before exploring additional highlights, including downtown Middlebury, historic Middlebury College Campus, and Town Hall Theater.
From Middlebury, drive to Tourterelle Restaurant to end your night with a delicious, elegant three-course dinner. Take one final spin in the BMW as you drive back to the Dreamhouse Country Inn to conclude your tour.
