We wanted to try scuba and thought what a great place to do it. There is an online course to do before you go, but is only about 30 minutes long. We had another class with Joe before we got suited up and hit the water. I can't say enough about Joe and the time he took with us. When we hit the water my wife couldn't do it, so she went back to shore to wait for us. He and I finished the underwater testing and then headed out to see some unbelievable wildlife. This was an excursion to remember. Thanks to Joe and the staff for a great time! When I get back home I'll be getting my certification.

Matt was amazing. Can't thank him enough for my first diving experience. He was calm and very thorough guiding us through the reef and spotting all marin life. Highly recommend.

This was sold to us as a beginner dive, but in reality it was anything but. After a rushed and superficial theory briefing, we were immediately taken into deep water with almost no preparation. There was no proper shallow-water acclimatization, no time given to calmly adjust to the equipment, and no effort made to ensure we were comfortable breathing artificial air before being pushed forward. As first-time divers, both my wife and I felt anxious and overwhelmed almost immediately. Instead of slowing things down—as any responsible instructor should—the instructor showed clear impatience, creating even more stress. We were never given the chance to get comfortable with the gear in waist-deep water, which is basic protocol for beginners. This alone made the experience unsafe and mentally distressing. On top of that, the Dive Maui team expects customers to carry full scuba gear on their backs and walk a significant distance to the beach. This gear is extremely heavy, especially for beginners who are not trained to handle it properly. My partner suffered back pain for two full days afterward. This was never clearly communicated beforehand, and no assistance or alternatives were offered. The entry into the water was equally unacceptable. The instructor repeatedly rushed us, telling us to move faster over sharp, uneven rocks, while wearing heavy gear and already feeling unsteady. This is reckless behavior, especially when dealing with new divers who are already nervous and physically burdened. At no point did we feel supported, guided, or reassured. Instead, we felt pressured, rushed, and ignored. A beginner diving experience should build confidence and trust. This did the opposite. It felt like the goal was to move people through as quickly as possible, not to ensure safety or comfort. This experience left us shaken, uncomfortable, and deeply disappointed. Diving is supposed to be exciting and memorable—instead, this was stressful and borderline unsafe. Dive Maui should seriously reconsider advertising beginner lessons if they are unwilling or unable to provide proper beginner instruction. If you are new to scuba diving, DO NOT go here. You deserve instructors who are patient, attentive, and prioritize safety over speed. I strongly feel this experience did not match what was promised, and I want my money back.

Matt was amazing! Made my father and I feel comfortable and confident underwater. Saw more turtles than I could count. Thank you Dive Maui!

If you love the ocean and you’ve been curious about scuba diving, but thought it would be too expensive, hard, time consuming, and scary to try, then you should do the discover scuba diving class with Matt at Dive Maui. Our family likes to try new activities but some of us were definitely nervous and not that comfortable with all the gear—oxygen tank, fins, regulator etc! We did a brief online tutorial ahead of our appointment and Matt walked us through every single thing we needed to know. Then he got us all set up with our gear and we headed into the water. Matt was patient (like a saint!) and knowledgeable and we all had a FABULOUS experience underneath the ocean! Saw countless number of fish, sea turtles, and a shark! We all loved our outing and would try scuba again! Thanks, Matt!
