This is big-sky, big-land country. It passes easily for the American West. Nestled between the Rocky Mountains and the Canadian Prairie, in the high ranching country of Alberta, is the historic Cowboy Trail. Hollywood have been making movies here for years here and you will discover the filming location in Kananaskis, Alberta Provincial Park and create memories you cannot forget.

The Alberta foothills is an amazing place to visit. The landforms are very interesting to look at because they come in many different shapes and sizes. The foothills location is wonderful because they are close to the beautiful rocky mountains. The forested slopes of Alberta’s Rocky Mountain along with the Foothills Natural Region are known collectively as the Eastern Slopes, which play a very important role in storing, cleaning, and slowly releasing water in upper watersheds.

Day 2: Hollywood in the Rockies Adventure

Stop At: Elbow Falls Provincial Recreation Area, Hwy 66 18 km's west of Highway 22 / Highway 66 intersection, Bragg Creek, Alberta T0L 0K0 Canada
Elbow River Falls and neighboring Moose Mountain, a little-known corner of the Canadian wilderness provided the stunning scenery for Brokeback Mountain . Kananaskis Country is a favorite place for Calgarians wanting to avoid overcrowded Banff and Lake Louise and most of the riverside camping sequences in Brokeback Mountain were shot at Elbow River Falls. This location served two scenes. Ennis and Jack returned here as older men in the “Maybe Texas” scene. The rock beside which Ennis rested his head in thankful prayer is a great spot to relax and ponder the beauty of this place.

Land was directed by Robin Wright. The Elbow River valley and Moose Mountain stood in for the stunning Shoshone landscapes of Wyoming. Layered, endlessly deep, and brutally moody, these mountain vistas provided all the seasonal shifts, curious animals, and hellish fury our crews could handle.

Day 3: Cowboy Trail Adventure

Stop At: Chain Lakes Provincial Park, Willow Creek Valley, Nanton, Alberta Canada
Chain Lakes Provincial Park doesn’t get travelers attention. For starters, the scenery in this part of Alberta is some of the prettiest you will ever see. The rolling foothills of green grasslands, willow, and pockets of aspen southwest of Calgary are a 360 degree postcard of beauty. This is especially true in spring when everything is fresh and green giving the region an Irish vibe.

Highway 22 (Cowboy Trail) cuts through impressive ranches making a picturesque trip.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Longview, Longview, Alberta
Longview is a Cool Little Town with much to offer. Galleries, gourmet dining, entertainment. Snuggled against the base of the Rocky Mountains, Turner Valley is one of the gateways to the Kananaskis and a town rich with history. Known as being the birthplace of Alberta's petroleum industry, this cool little town offers a variety of exciting experiences.

You will enjoy sitting on the verandah, scanning the pristine landscape and sipping excellent Fratello coffee at Ian Tyson’s Navajo Mug in Longview owned by the cowpoke music star, whose own ranch is nearby.

Movie- makers adore town Longview. And rightly so, it’s one of the most gorgeous places on Earth. Clint Eastwood fell in love with this part of Alberta. Unforgiven, his Academy award-winning blockbuster which revived the Western genre of motion pictures, was shot in this area. As was days of Heaven, too (starring Richard Gere, in a career-defining role).
