What a great time! Our family of 4 was traveling for spring break and we really enjoyed it! Andre our guide was great, a real ambassador of the city and the local restaurants. He was a wealth of knowledge and a really nice guy. The food was amazing and the restauranteurs a pleasure.

Some of the humor on the tour felt uncomfortable. Very early in the tour, the guide joked about a shopkeeper who supposedly threatens to eat people’s pets, asking, “What do they eat in China?” She later pointed out strip clubs, adding, “So if the men are missing, we know where they’ve gone,” while gesturing at men in our group (who were attending with their mother and sister). One of the featured shopkeepers told both our group and the next a joke about Chinese parents hitting their children as discipline, adding, “It’s not abuse.” Historical topics were sometimes treated superficially. “Paper sons” were referenced as “not a proud part of our history,” but it wasn’t clear whether this meant American immigration policies or something else. Very early on, we stopped by a “Comfort Women” statue, a meaningful memorial, where the guide gave brief context that they were “sex slaves” and then shifted to discussing the tour and its food—including the pet joke. The food was generally good.

Such a great experience. Brian was an encyclopedia of information he was energetic, entertaining and kept our attention throughout the tour. The information was very detailed and interesting the food was good and the local history was detailed and enthralling. The tea tasting was the highlight of the tour. Ming was awesome. We bought multiple teas and a strainer with glass pot. The tour ran over the allotted 4hrs, so be prepared with good comfortable shoes and attire. Might be a good idea to bring a sun hat, and backpack with different layers to wear. The backpack can also carry your purchased items so you don't have a handful of little shopping bags.
