We grew up in Pacifica, just down the coast from San Francisco. Since we moved away in 1989, we decided to take on SF just like tourists over the post-Thanksgiving holiday. What fun it was to travel the streets of San Francisco with Andre. We enjoyed his enthusiastic personality and his love for his adopted city was evident. It was also a hoot to see how many people Andre knew as the tour rolled on! We had a blast learning about the history of Chinatown and North Beach. We loved all the cool places we stopped to sample the food wares...everything was fresh and delicious, and the business owners were so friendly and welcoming. The walking tour is fast paced, so wear comfortable shoes. Also, be sure to bring a jacket because the City can get chilly, especially in the evening. The only suggestion we have is mini portable microphones for the tour guides. With a group of people, the constant street noise, and on-the-move education, we believe most people would find this helpful. We wholeheartedly endorse this walking/eating tour and look forward to another Local Tates of the City Tours adventure!

This tour exceeded our expectations. It was our third time visiting San Francisco, and we’re already quite familiar with Chinatown, yet this experience still led us to explore and discover little hidden gems we had never noticed before (the first time to see so many flavors of fortune cookies!). By the end, you’ll realize you’ve tried food from many different Chinese and Italian restaurants and shops, gathered a pocket full of treats/snacks to take home, and even made a few new friends along the way. It's a suprise that we even had the chance to see the opening of Dear SF, a great show! Our guide, Isabella, was incredibly dedicated — she made sure every participant enjoyed the journey and coordinated each stop thoughtfully, even while we were resting. It was truly a memorable and well-curated experience.

Great tour learning so much about the neighborhoods we visited. The tour was much longer than expected running 4.5 hours, but was fun meeting the people in our group. The food was good, and everything that was promised, but with such a long time, it felt more like a walking history tour than a food tour.
