First, I am not a history buff. My Father was, and he passed away before he could take his trip to Gettysburg. I decided to take a few days and go to Gettysburg, as I was intrigued to learn about what my Dad was interested in and why. Well, August 2nd was my lucky day. I was placed with the BEST guide that the site has. Mr. Robert W. (Bob) Steenstra. His passion for what he does is unparalleled. By the first stop, I was hanging on every word and taking note of the positions he was pointing to. Halfway in, he gets so passionate about the stories that he is telling, that I find myself getting emotional. He knows it THAT WELL, and takes you with him on that journey. This man isn't simply a tour guide, he is a top expert of the Battle of Gettysburg. Whether you are deep into into Civil War History or just want to casually learn what happened, Bob is the best there is. If you can get him for a private tour, I encourage you to take it. He will keep you on the edge of your seat and you will retain what he says, as his delivery is amazing. Ask him to tell you about Lincoln's speech. Enjoy!

How did the Battle of Gettysburg affect the small bustling town, & the people who called it home? As you travel through the Heritage Center, discover what life was like before, during and after the battle. This story of courage & turmoil is told through engaging 3-D videos, interactive displays, text panels containing excerpts from letters & diaries, artifacts & memorabilia.  The popular, "Cellar Experience," is included in the tour.  Experience what it was like for the townspeople who were confined to their basements, listening as the battle was fought around them. The tour concludes with the Award-Winning movie, "Gettysburg: Animated Map," which was produced by the Civil War Trust. The movie, which covers the three days of fighting, is a good orientation & overview on the battle. Bordering the Gettysburg National Military Park battlefield, the Heritage Center is an educational & entertaining experience for families and groups of all ages. Allow 1-2 hours.

Chris Rebmann was my tour guide. He was absolutely fantastic. He is so knowledgeable and Civil War history - not only the details about Gettysburg but other aspects of the war as well. I had a great time and great conversation. Thanks Chris for a great afternoon. Ken Froedge

We requesgted a licensed battlefield guide and Paul Bailey was assigned. What a gem of a guy! He arrived on time and asked us what we were interested in. He proceeded to tailor his talk to all the things we wanted to know about. We requested a 4 hour tour. At the end of 4 hours, Paul (who had talked non stop already for 4 hours!) looked and sounded like he could easily go on for 4 more hours. We had barely scratched the surface of his knowledge. We highly recommend Paul, if you have the chance to have him assigned to your group, you will not be disappointed. Paul is clearly one of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides at the park. We can't recommend him highly enough!

The museum was a great experience and the movie that comes with admission is a top notch production, and it has a large gift and souvenir shop. You can also arrange for a Licensed Battlefield Guide here as well, I highly recommend it!
