Solo traveler who booked a 2 night package at the hotel with the train into the Grand Canyon on day number 2. Overall experience was wonderful but a blip along the way. I also included the "Grand Tour" bus experience once I got off the train. The bus tour was really good as it takes you to a number of other vistas including views of the mighty Colorado River. The "blip" was I added lunch to the bus tour tour for an additional $23 which turned out to simply be a pre-made choice of sandwich with a bag a chips and cold drink. Really disappointed in the lack luster meal to say the least. If you book the bus tour do NOT add the lunch...as you can purchase on your own cheaper and more of a choice. With this being said DO book the Dome Car (at least while going to the park). Traveling to the park I booked the Dome Car and returning the Luxury Car. Rates are comparable but I did enjoy the Dome Car more. Both of these cars include light snacks and drinks in the price as well....a bit pricey but what the heck you only go round once in life. The hotel itself is nice, huge and somewhat confusing especially finding the registration desk. I did not add the meal plan at The Fred Harvey Restaurant located at the hotel. Happy I did not as it ups the package deal amount tremendously and speaking with others who ate there the reviews were mixed. Just an FYI...the hotel is less than a 5 minute walk from Rt.66 in Willaims with a number of fine places to east. I especially enjoyed The Pine County Diner...great comfort food and homemade cream pies...YUM! Don't miss the short but fun "Outlaw" show at 9am the day of train ride and before you can board at 9:15am...fun for children of ALL AGES. Overall enjoyed this trip so much...booked a return trip for late in June with the grand kids!

This was our first trip to the Grand Canyon, and I am hopeful we will return again. We booked the Luxury Parlor Car on the outbound trip from Williams. Our "concierge" Jennifer was just delightful and full of facts and information. We also got to chat with Mario, the conductor, and George, the brakeman, and learned a lot about the train and what they do. As others have noted, you don't have a lot of time visiting the G.C., but views from the top are awesome. We spent about 30 minutes hiking down part of the Bright Angel Trail. The return trip was a bit more strenuous, and I would suggest having more water than you think you might need, especially since we were in the sun most of the trip. The Verkamp Visitor's Center and some of the other buildings onsite are really pretty interesting, too, especially if you like knowing about the history of this National Park. The Rim Trail is paved and was easily walkable. Our train attendant on the return, Natalie (?), was also terrific. It was a great day and a good way to see the G.C. without driving.

We were a group of 6. I felt that it’s a good experience going in but coming back it was just too slow. Also we paid for the bus tour which was good but if you drive abd take the shuttle, it’s all free.

About This Deal

The excitement begins at the historic 1908 Williams Depot. Before the train departs you will be entertained by a Wild West shootout featuring the Cataract Creek Gang in an outdoor theater. Shop in one of two gift shops, or enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast (not included) before departure at the Grand Depot Cafe next to the depot.

Then, hear the train whistle pierce the fresh morning air, beckoning passengers for a trip on the old iron horse to the Grand Canyon. Uniformed coach attendants provide you with white-gloved courtesy and service. Aboard the train, enjoy the tunes of strolling musicians who conduct sing-a-longs, an Old West train robbery, and the antics of western characters as they recreate train travel as it was back in 1901.

The train arrives at the historic 1910 Grand Canyon Depot, the only remaining log depot still in operation in the United States. Buildings like the El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge salute arriving guests as you pull into the station and disembark from the train. A narrated motorcoach rim tour of the Grand Canyon National Park can be added and enhances your visit by escorting you to the most scenic overlooks of the canyon.
