Trail is frequently muddy so wear appropriate footwear. Leave early, like 8AM at the latest. It's a long day and driving that road in the dark sucks. Get reservations for the Waiʻānapanapa State Park of you want to enter.

10/10 must use app & guide! This was the most detailed & fun commentary that was 100% accurate to our location at all times, even with no service it never skipped a beat. It ensured we saw what we NEEDED to see, gave a bunch of additional options with short detours (and adjusted the directions and commentary appropriately) and on the way back gave us an oral history so nothing was repeated or duplicated. Best $20 we spent in Maui and will definitely be looking into other self guided tours through this company!
