I’ve been on dozens of all day tours around all kinds of interesting places and this tour (guide) was among the best of the best…every need was considered and catered to, whether it be a beverage, some rain protection, or a hot towel after a walk through a lava tube. Toby was a wonderfully knowledgeable and and entertaining guide—he provided a fantastic balance between history, culture, interesting fun facts, nature and animal information, plus some other treats that made the day feel like a complete Hawaiian experience. The only negative thing I can say about this day is that it has now set the bar so high, any other day-long tour will pale in comparison. I guess that’s the price you have to pay once you’ve experienced greatness. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

This Kailani Tours experience is unique for its diverse blend of Hawai'i’s natural beauty, local flavors, and rich cultural history. Wonderful experience on our first official day on the Big Island. Our tour guide Paul was knowledgeable and funny. The tour stops were great because it was just enough time to enjoy the scenery, take pictures, buy souvenirs then move on to the next. I’d recommended bringing a light sweater. Snacks and drinks were provided by our tour guide.

My trip to Hawaiʻi was exceptional, but Kailani Tours was undeniably the highlight. It was a bucket-list item of mine to see a volcano, so I took a solo trip to Hawaiʻi for my 30th birthday—and I’m so grateful I found Kailani tours. With them, I was able to tour a coffee farm, stroll a black sand beach, and explore Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. It was a truly unforgettable experience thanks to our tour guide. From start to finish, our guide made the day exceptional. His depth of knowledge was incredible—every stop came with fascinating history, cultural insights, and personal stories that brought the island to life. You could tell he wasn’t just reciting facts; he genuinely cared about sharing the story of Hawaiʻi. The coffee farm was full of rich information about the growing and roasting process. One of my favorite moments was when Dave pointed out a family of chameleons nestled in a tree on the property—an unexpected and delightful surprise. The black sand beach was stunning, made even more meaningful by our guide’s explanations of lithographs and the natural freshwater spot we could drink from. Volcanoes National Park was my personal favorite; I smiled so hard inside the lava tubes that I almost ruined the photos. What really set this tour apart was the thoughtful detour at the end. Instead of heading straight back, our guide brought us to a quiet spot to stargaze. Seeing the Hawaiian night sky so clearly was absolutely magical. I would book with Kailani Tours again in an instant. I absolutely loved this experience.

This tour absolutely lives up to its high rating, it's hard to imagine anywhere else where you can experience so much in a single day. Our guide was Kawika, who packed almost every minute of this tour, including drive time, with his exceptional insights into the geography, history, and culture of the island. The large tour van is very comfortable, most stops are chosen and timed to avoid crowds when possible, and the Bento-style lunch provided was a high-quality, decent-sized, sit-down-at-a-nice-restaurant, not box-lunch-in-your-lap, meal with, oh by the way, a spectacular view of an active volcano crater right outside the window. Plenty of snacks and beverages were also provided, but the items you have a chance to buy at stops along the way, from coffee-infused chocolate to unique macademia nut cookies, to some of the island's best shave ice, are worth filling up on instead. If you are spending the time and money to get to and stay on the island of Hawai'i, and especially if you haven't seen many of the areas far away from the resorts, you would be making a huge mistake if you passed up the chance to go on this tour.
