The 6 hour Kenai Fjords National Park Glacier and Wildlife cruise is the best way to see all the incredible beauty and wildlife Alaska has to offer. The cruise departs from the harbor right behind the Harbor 360 hotel. It leaves promptly at 8am and you can board as early as 7:30am. While on the cruise we saw humpback whales (2 different ones), harbor seals, sea otters, Stellar sea lions, multiple kinds of birds including eagles as well as puffins, a pod of Orca whales plus Dall's porpoises. We also visited the Holgate Glacier and saw many other spectacular sights. Captain Kayleigh along with crew chief Olivia and the rest of the staff made this cruise incredibly worthwhile. The Captain was great at sharing insights about Resurrection Bay, the Gulf of Alaska, the history of Seward plus sharing details about ice fields, glaciers, sea life, etc. The cruise comes with a deli lunch which exceeded my modest expectations. While in front of the Holgate Glacier, a fun part of the trip is when the crew scooped glacial ice and then used the ice to make Margaritas (for purchase) as well as non-alcoholic drinks. Crew member Luis, then walked around the boat with a chunk of the ice so people could take pictures with it as well as touch it for good luck. Pro Tips (and these are important): The crew will almost insist you take something for motion sickness, ex. Dramamine Even on a calm day, you will be tossed around quite a bit; if you get sea sick/motion sick easily, then do NOT go on this cruise We took Dramamine and had no issues; on the cruise we saw only 1 person feel sea sick Dress in layers!!! You will be sitting inside the boat; however temps on the water will be in the 40s with spray and possibly rain; you will want to go outside to see all the wildlife and it will be cold! Hat & gloves are a good idea plus a waterproof shell. Bring your best camera and also binoculars if you have them (the cruise does have binoculars you can borrow) as there are so many great photo ops. The binoculars are especially helpful when viewing the Orca and humpback whales As mentioned, the cruise leaves promptly at 8am. Check in is inside the lobby of the Harbor 360 Hotel and begins as early as 7am. Check in as early as possible so you can get in line by 7:30am. This matters because the 1st people on the boat get the window tables inside the boat which is where you want to sit for best viewing. There is no assigned seating and the crew will accommodate your party size to ensure everyone sits together. Bring some cash in case you want to tip the Captain and/or crew. This is not required and nice to do if you feel the crew went above & beyond (as they did in our case). The cruise arrives back in Seward at 2pm providing plenty of time to make the train back to Anchorage (which departs the rail depot at 6pm). Plan ahead to reserve space on the cruise as it sells out quickly!

This 6-hour cruise explores Kenai Fjords National Park and visits an actively calving tidewater glacier in beautiful Aialik Bay. Our experienced captains will narrate your cruise and point out wildlife such as whales, sea otters, sea lions, puffins, and more. Stop at the mighty Holgate or Aialik Glacier and float among the icebergs as you watch for calving, where giant chunks of ice break off and crash into the ocean. Onboard captain narration and complimentary deli lunch included.
