Monument Valley is full of incredible sights, but we were more interested in Navajo history and culture. We booked the 3.5 hour tour and from the start our guide Levander was telling us lots of stories. We learned about growing up on the reservation, what it's like to live a traditional Navajo life, myths, and so many other stories. If I were to describe the tour in one sentence, I'd say that Levander was a great storyteller and that his stories will stay with us forever. I can't recommend this tour highly enough.

Hey there! How about going on a fun-filled 3.5-hour cultural tour in the beautiful backcountry of the Lower Monument Valley Tribal Park? It's an amazing way to experience the local culture and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. When you join our tour, we make sure to provide you with an immersive experience of the Navajo culture. Our guides will take you to a local Hogan Demonstration where you can witness their way of life and understand their beliefs. We also encourage our guides to share their stories with you and entertain you with traditional music. We hope you'll leave with a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Navajo culture.

Points of Interest

Stop At: Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
Monument Valley, Utah
The Navajo culture has thrived on the land between the Four Scared Mountains, and those teachings have been inherited through generations of verbal and lesson teaching methods. Some of these teachings are shared with you during the Cultural Tour by your Navajo guide. The Cultural, 3.5 hour tour makes a first stop at the famous John Ford’s Point where many of John Wayne’s western cinematic movies were filmed. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the “Sun’s Eye Arch" and Hogan Demonstration.  At “Sun’s Eye Arch” you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sun’s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guide’s stories. Next, you will travel to the “Big Hogan.” The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots. The last stop in the Backcountry is the “Ear of the Wind.” This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs. Next, you will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument. The last stop is at the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at a different angle. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point. Unfortunately, we cannot give much information about our guides’ stories because each guide has very uniquely different stories to tell. Our guides’ stories come from personal experience, lore, legends and the Navajo culture.

I had the very good luck to end up solo on a 3.5 hour tour with Harry. The scenery was fabulous, of course. But Harry was just a generous and kind person; he shared a tremendous amount of information about the valley, its history, as well as his culture and history. He was an excellent guide, with endless tips about where and how to get the best photos. He knew all the shots and locations of films shot in various places. He told me about some of the plants and their uses. It was just a jam-packed morning of learning and scenery. I so enjoyed it!

Dineh Bekeyah 4x4 Monument Valley tour is #1 in our books. The tour was a total treat, and one we will remember for a lifetime. Our tour guide, Darren, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He made the spectacular sights, smells and wonder of the Monument Valley better than we could have imagined. From deep conversations to a few good laughs, thank you Darren! Monument Valley is worth checking out, and this tour will take you places you can not go to by yourself. What you get to experience is worthwhile and will have you in awe. Thanks again Dineh Bekeyah Tours, Darren our awesome tour guide and Charlene who got us booked last minute.
