This was our absolute favorite things we did in NOLA the whole we were there! We were very fortunate that the weather was cloudy and threatening rain that day, as it cooled down for us and the critters in the swamp. The plantation is so well curated. You have a phone looking device that you can listen to when you get to each part of the tour. The readings are read by actual relatives of former slaves recounting the treatment they received. These are the words of the people that lived this life. It is not a glorified Antebellum experience. It is in memoriam to all the people who were brought there and kept there against their will…even through the the 1970s!!! (Note: I would also highly advised reading the chapter dedicated to this plantation in the book HOW THE WORD IS PASSED by Clint Smith. I wish I had read it before we went.) The other thing was…I forgot the bug spray. Bring that with you for sure!!! We had lunch at the Oak Alley Plantation cafe. Not much for gluten free folks, but I managed with a salad. After a sobering morning, we spent the afternoon on the airboat with Captain Trey. I think my husband thought I was a little crazy for wanting to do this, but he cannot stop talking about how cool this was. The ride was fast, smooth and beautiful. We got to see at least four alligators up close, which Trey had little pet names for. My husband and I nicknamed them Golden Gators because of how they calmly paddled over to the boat like Golden Retrievers. He fed them, so they obviously were excited to see his boat pull up. Trey had vast knowledge of the bayou with all kinds of knowledge. Lastly, I cannot say enough about the professionalism and care of our driver (Dionne sp?). She was so careful when the road conditions were not optimal. In addition, she had great information to share on the way to all of our stops. Great communicator what to expect, when to meet, etc. We both highly recommend this excursion!!!

Trip got cancelled but we were not told until I rang them 1/2hr after they should have picked us up after I managed to find a number, only to be told we were not on their schedule to ring us to let us know. Waste of a complete day 2nd time now this has happened.

A fantastic trip with Dionne who demonstrated great knowledge of the history and sights of New Orleans. The Whitney Plantation audio tour provided respectful and informative insight into the historical slave trade around the area. Our airboat swamp tour was educative and adrenaline packed as we got to see large parts of the bayou and many alligators.

Great experience with a fantastic transport driver. The plantation was beautiful and we love the history lessons. The air boat driver Cody was a pro

The driver was really friendly and he spoke to all of us during some of the journey, pointing interesting things out to us and giving us tips. First part of the trip was to the Whitney plantation, now I haven't been to any other plantations but if you do want to learn about what it was like for the people who were put through this horrible experience then I would recommend the whitney plantation. It's really eye opening and very sad, but it's apart if history and I feel like everyone should know how they were treated. You walk round the whole plantation, its mainly based outside, tou do walk through the house, but they don't focus on that part. You are given earphones to wear and people who went through this speak to you, telling you about their experience back when it was an active plantation. It also goes into detail about where they lived and the uprising that happened. I would recommend this tour highly. The other part of the tour was the airboat swamp tour, I really enjoyed this. I didn't expect to see an alligator much less how many we did actually get to see. As soon as we got on the boat and started out, we turned a corner and an alligator was there with another boat, our tour guide stopped the boat to get the alligator over to our boat. They coax them over with chicken, and the alligator jumps up to eat it, it was a very good experience. The tour guide also managed to get an alligator on the boat and walked it across by coaxing it with the chicken, it didn't stop and look at us which I was thankful for 😅. The tour guide was really good and full of knowledge about the swamp and the wildlife that lives around the swamp, he was able to spot quite a few different animals which was really cool. He also went to a part of the swamp which was open water and took us on a fast ride around it, so if you're an adrenaline junkie you'd probably really enjoy that part of the trip. All in all I would definitely recommend this tour company, it was worth the money and everybody we came across were really friendly. Both tours were really good in different ways, plantation was good because you saw through the eyes of the slaves and the swamp tour was good because of the alligators. If you can fit this into your trip to New Orleans do it you won't regret it!
