Noah is fantastic! There’s a reason why he has all 5-star reviews. He picked us up at the pier (we were on a cruise) and started our day with a general overview of where we were going. All along the way he told us a wide variety of stories from the historical to the personal. We stopped at various viewing/observation points along the ascent up the canyon, telling us some geological facts and figures about what we were seeing. He set the perfect pace, allowing us just the right amount of time to take photos (which he always offered to take for us). Let me say that the Waimea Canyon is spectacular. Truly pictures don’t do it justice and it seemed that one vantage point outdid the previous one. It was truly a display of the beauty of nature at its finest. We got to the top, but it was shrouded in clouds. It didn’t bother us; we chuckled and enjoyed the mist that swirled around, which was beautiful itself. We then headed down and Noah asked if we wanted to stop for lunch, which we did, so we stopped at Shrimp Station for delicious fried shrimp and French Fry plates. Next we were off to the Kauai Coffee Plantation to taste Kauai coffee then off to a beach to see if we could find some sea lions and turtles. While there weren’t any at the beach, we drove a short way down and found a sea lion sleeping on a rock and watched turtles frolicking in the surf. Great fun! Then we headed back to the ship. It was amazing how quickly the tour had gone. Noah kept us entertained the whole time and we learned so much about the island, the people, the history and culture of Kauai. On the way there, we will stop to stretch our legs and take a look at the Hanapepe Valley overlook. At Waimea town, we will begin our ascent into the canyon. We will stop at about 1800 feet for our first view, stop at a miniature waterfall for pictures, take a short walk on a nature trail with native Hawaiian plants where you can stand at the very edge of the canyon, and then on to the main canyon viewing area. From there we will head to the top stopping to see the Waipo'o Falls on the way. At the very top we will view two different vantage points of the Kalalau Valley from 4700 feet down to the ocean. On the way back down, listen to a historical tale about the Kalalau Valley. Lunch. Then to the south side for Spouting Horn and Poipu Beach where we will be on the lookout for turtles and the Hawaiian monk seals.
