Be picked up in early morning from local hotels in the Reno/Sparks area. Head to the Reno Amtrak station for your 8:36am departure, traveling on some twisting and turning roads with breath taking views. First, head to Truckee where you can enjoy breakfast (own expense) and the quaint shops in the downtown area.

Then, visit Tahoe City, home of the famous 'Fanny Bridge'. Head to Emerald Bay to see Fannette Island, the only island on Lake Tahoe. Stop on the beach for lunch to soak up some rays and take some pictures (weather permitting). As you travel around beautiful Lake Tahoe there will be plenty of photo opportunities.

After, head to the Taylor Creek visitor center to see a section of the creek through a panel of aquarium windows. In the fall the Kokanee salmon spawn here.

On the way back to Reno visit Nevada's Capitol, Carson City.

• The train comes from Chicago and has a 50/50 chance of being at the station within the 1-hour window
