My daughter and I decided to take this tour together and we had just an incredible time with Ryan. Gosh, talk about having a wealth of knowledge of the city... and such a great love and regard for the people and its history. I appreciated the Comfort Women statue, honoring and giving space to those women and young girls who were kidnapped and endured such brutality. We toured the Cable Car Power Station where the huge cables wind their way around, powering the trolley cars on the streets... and learned about the *one* woman crusade to save the cable cars from going extinct. Loved the parrot tree - Ryan timed it perfectly to witness the daily arrival of the parrots feeding on a particular tree! Loved the shady path of homes and foliage that I'm sure few people know about and get to see. Those are just a small taste of what we experienced! Put on your walking shoes... its a full 4 hours! Put on your listening ears (put your phones on mute) and be ready to absorb the details and insights Ryan offers. He has a gift, and is willing to share. Sally

This four-mile loop weaves through the largest Chinatown in the U.S, climbs from the Cable Car Museum to the peak of Russian Hill, & cruises along the Italian enclave of North Beach. Beginning at the Friendship Gate, we’ll travel through the colorful alleys of Chinatown, browse its exotic markets, and visit the first Chinese temple in America. At the Powerhouse we'll see what makes the fabled cable cars tick, then ascend Russian Hill, winding through the whimsical, verdant Macondray Lane––one of the City's most beautiful hidden streets & the basis for Barbary Lane in Armistead Maupin's colorful fiction series, Tales of the City. Coast through North Beach& enjoy traditional trattoria patios, old-school bars, & handmade cuisine that bring Italian charm to life. We’ll check out City Lights Bookstore, Vesuvio Cafe, & other landmarks before ending our loop back at the Friendship Gate. "Snack stops" made at Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, Golden Boy Pizza & Stella Pastry (for purchase).
