We went on a morning snorkeling tour with Sea Paradise in January when we were in Kona. Everything about the crew, the boat, and the experience were top notch. The morning snorkel is 4 ½ hours long, and begins with a delicious continental breakfast of pastries and fresh fruit while the boat travels toward the snorkeling sites in Kealakekua Bay. The crew — consisting of Captain Ed, Kamailie, Josh, Matt and Erin — were all friendly, professional and helpful. When we were snorkeling, I felt completely safe with 2 crew members in the water on floats the whole time to monitor the snorkeling guests. When my snorkel started to leak badly, Kamailie paddled back to the boat to get me one that would fit better, which allowed me to enjoy the rest of the snorkel. On the way to Kealakekua Bay, we spotted whales in the distance. We stayed with them as long as we could without throwing the schedule too far off. Then we saw two bottlenose dolphins who dove and played near the boat. The two snorkeling experiences were excellent — particularly the second one beneath the Captain Cook memorial. Box lunches with lots of available snacks and a cash bar were provided after we re-boarded the boat and as we traveled back to Keauhou Bay. It was a thoroughly delightful and wonderful day!

As you arrive at the "World Famous Captain Cook Monument" your snorkeling adventure will begin in the turquoise waters and vibrant reef of the marine sanctuary of Kealakekua Bay. Make sure to bring an underwater camera to capture the colorful schools of fish, pods of spinner dolphins that are also commonly spotted in the bay. “Hawaii The Big Island Revealed” guide book says, “snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay near the monument is perhaps the best you will find anywhere in the state”.

You will be met by crew at the end of the pier approx. 15 minutes prior to departure and will be boarding Hoku Nui which is a 50ft Sailing Catamaran with a blue sail bag.

Snorkeling around the Captain Monument, viewing all of the exotic colors of fish, was an exciting experience. The crew was professional, experienced, and very safety conscious. The extra tales were quite interesting. Since it included a continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks plus 2 sites for snorkeling, it was well worth the price.

The tour was great. The crew was fantastic, we really enjoyed the snorkeling, saw lots of colorful fish, a sea turtle and listened to whale song. The food was really good and I would definitely recommend!
