Kuwohi is a sacred place for the Cherokee people and is the highest point within the traditional Cherokee homeland. Kuwohi is one of the most popular sites in Great Smoky Mountains National Park with more than 650,000 visitors per year. It is the tallest point in Tennessee and the third-highest summit east of the Mississippi River.

Departure Point

  • Park in the Asheville visitor center parking lot and walk up the steps to the front of the building to board our clearly labeled van marked TP's Day Trip Adventures. The guide will meet you there.
  • Park in the public parking lot adjacent to the Black Mountain Visitor Center. The guide and van will be parked across the street at the visitor center.

Drive through the lush forest of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on our way to Kuwohi Mountain. Roadside waterfalls flowing from the mountains, and a beautiful rocky river follow along the side of the road allow many opportunities to take pictures along the way. It is also possible to see Elk, deer, and wild turkeys.
