Closed for construction in 2019 and 2020, Peyto Lake viewpoint now has an expanded viewing platform and extra parking lot that allows tour buses to park closer to the viewpoint, avoiding much of the steep trail that visitors would otherwise have to trek if they drove their personal vehicles. The viewing platform being at 2115 meters above sea level, the highest point of the Icefield Parkway, offers a view of layers of mountains behind mountains.
