What You'll Get
The spring in the valley walking tour takes you into the Metcalf Bottoms area where you will find a school house, children's graveyard, and the Walker Sisters Cabin. The Walkers were some of the very last residents who lived inside the national park after its creation. The school house was built by Mr. John Walker himself and the story of this family is very fascinating and educational. A famous mountain man of the name Uncle Lem Ownby will also be a topic of great discussion on this tour. Life in this area and that of the first resort area known as Elkmont, the little river lumber company and railroad, famous train wrecks in the area, and much more. Along the way you will get to see all the beautiful plants and maybe even some animals. Your local guide will have a vault of useful information, and all guests are encouraged to interact with the guide for the best possible experience.
