The eco tour was really great. It was our first time on the SUP, but that was no problem. The tour was very chill, with lot of attention for the environment: the presence of birds, fish, history of the islands, etc. Very nice views of the Toronto skyline! Highly recommended!

Toronto Island is the only island chain in Western Lake Ontario, has a diverse collection of plants and wildlife, and holds deep history dating back to the first native American people. Did you know the location for Toronto, then called York, was chosen due to the prime natural harbour created by the Toronto Island, then a peninsula. Wards and Algonquin Island are some of the oldest neighborhoods in the city and some of their ancestors are still here today.

This was my first experience with SUP, and it's something I've wanted to try for awhile, so I was really looking forward to this trip. Objectively, exploring the island by paddleboard is a great experience. The tour does what it says on the tin - a quick lesson in the basics of paddleboarding was provided at the start. We were given instructions on how to balance and navigate using the paddleboard. Otherwise, administratively, booking is easy, lockers and dry bags are available. Overall, I enjoyed taking in the sights and the flora and fauna. Given there was a bit of a heat wave, it was a great way to cool off too. Now, why didn't I rate this higher? I really wanted to. However, I think the tour would be more enjoyable if everyone in the group is of a similar level. Unfortunately, being my first time, I was quite slow on the board and was left quite a ways behind. In itself, within the channels of the island, it would not be the worst scenario, as you get to take in the scenery. However, it was quite nerve-wracking to see the rest far ahead of you and feeling like you are battling to reach them, and then being told there "would not be time for photos" if you did not hurry up. Not the most encouraging experience. I could, personally, do without the photos, if it meant I could enjoy the surroundings and not feel like a burden to the group. The other thing I would like to add is a general advisory. While the islands are beautiful, I did notice discarded needles in the water, which is a cause for concern to the user of the water bodies who may be caught unawares and suffer a needlestick injury. I booked this trip via Get-Your-Guide, before realizing it's available on Tripadvisor too.

It was great to find out more about the islands of toronto. We went on 2 tandem kayaks and it was a great experience with James, our guide. It was also nice because you could hear the rumble and hum of the indycar engines.
