We'll start from Hilo's enduring community fixture, the Mo'oheau Bandstand, then make our way through most of Downtown Hilo until we do a full loop, ending back where the tour began.

We'll pass through Hilo's popular "Farmer's Market", view local architectural works listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places (some of which survived the last few tsunamis), and learn about some of Hilo's local legends.

Oh my, does this building have a story or home to the Mokupāpapa Discovery Center for Hawaiʻi’s Remote Coral Reefs. Its spacious floor with preserved interior also features a 3,500 gallon saltwater aquarium, interactive educational exhibits, and life-size models of wildlife found in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

Designed by Charles W. Dickey and built in 1930, this sturdy, solid concrete building (listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places) is formerly the site of Hilo’s First Hawaiian Bank, Hawai‘i’s oldest and largest financial institution.

We'll discuss this bite-sized historical museum of the island of Hawaii and its culture from the very first missionary family that settled in Hilo.

This street was the main destination of the "Great Religious Revival", and features Kalākaua Park, which is the central "town square" of Hilo and is surrounded by historic buildings, towering banyan trees, statues, and includes a war memorial as well.
